How are sustainability and energy-efficiency trends helping to shape demand in the global heat exchanger industry?

Demand for heat exchangers is typically driven by increased investments in the chemical, petrochemical, fuel processing, HVAC, refrigeration, food and beverage, power generation and energy industries. Other growth drivers include investments in the expanding marine shipbuilding market, which is, in turn, spurring increased demand for divergent heat exchanger applications. These types of investments are typically in response to macro-economic drivers such as population growth and economic expansion.

In addition, sustainability and energy-efficiency are becoming increasingly prevalent considerations among customers seeking heat exchanger solutions – especially in environmentally progressive regions of the world such as Europe. More efficient process heat recovery reduces energy consumption and can bring significant cost savings. For example, through our APV brand, we offer a wide range of plate heat exchanger technologies for oil and gas production in both onshore and offshore locations that can help increase heat process efficiency and contribute to lower costs.

Where are you seeing market growth opportunities for SPX FLOW heat exchangers?

The worldwide market for heat exchangers is expected to see solid growth over the next five years, driven largely by increased industrial activity in developing countries, and the growing adoption of energy-saving equipment. The chemical industry is among the largest end users of heat exchanger technology, along with others such as petrochemical, oil & gas, power generation, refrigeration, pharmaceuticals, HVAC, food & beverage processing, and pulp paper industry.

Currently, we are seeing greater demand for heat exchangers in emerging markets such as China, India and Latin America, and as such, we are looking taking steps to increase our presence and expand our heat exchanger manufacturing capacity in key markets such as these.

Can you tell us more about SPX FLOW’s line of hybrid heat exchangers?

Our APV Hybrid Heat Exchangers are extremely efficient and flexible. Based on a multi-flexible configuration platform, Hybrid is designed to operate under harsh conditions where other heat exchanger technologies can fail, have a shorter operating lifetime, or reduce operational efficiency. Their low flooded weight and footprint is also advantageous in most installations, both onshore and offshore.

What’s more, our hybrid exchangers are designed for easy maintenance. The fouling medium can flow through the “tube” side, which is accessible for mechanical cleaning, if needed.

Does SPX FLOW offer preventative maintenance solutions in the heat exchanger market?

Yes, in fact our innovative Gappscan offering is an amazingly effective preventative maintenance testing device. It enables plant operators to detect tiny cracks and holes that might cause leaks and thus negatively impact the production capacity and efficiency of heir facility equipment – all while avoiding the significant trouble and costs of having to dismantle their systems. Specifically in the sanitary business, this technology adds essential safety value for the process.
